Name: Thomas Edward Brady, Jr.
Sport: Football
Date of Birth: August 3rd, 1977
Hometown: Mateo, California
Marital Status: Not Married

Tom Brady got his start by frequenting 49ers games when he was a young boy, and so claims that Joe Montana is one of his main inspirations for playing the game of football. Since he was drafted by the Patriots, Brady has quickly become what some would consider the best quarterback of this generation. This would only seem true because of his amazing reputation and many awards as a football player.

Early Life:
Tom grew up in San Mateo, California. While he lived there, you would find him at either a 49ers game, or playing baseball at his high school. He graduated from his high school and was drafted by the Montreal Expos in 1995 to play Major League Baseball. But his career would take a different turn. And that turn led him to football.

                    College:
Brady played football as a back up at the University of Michigan for the first two years he attended college. Brady wanted in the game, but rarely got to see game time. In 1998 and 1999, after battling the thought of transferring out of the school, and forcing his way to first string quarterback, Tom finally got his wish.

He started in each game in the 98 and 99 seasons in which he set 2 new Michigan records for most pass attempts and completions in one season, and topped off his record first real season with a Citrus Bowl win.

Career:
In the 2000 NFL Draft, a toss up was made between Tom Brady and Tim Rattay to see who would play for the Patriots. Ultimately, the Patriots chose Brady over Rattay.

He worked his way up to being back-up for starter quarterback Drew Bledsoe, whom the Patriots lost due to injury later in the 2001 season. Brady was forced into starting, and seemed mediocre at first, to say the least. Brady pulled the Patriots through it, though and got them into the playoffs. Brady’s first time being named MVP was at Superbowl 36.

In 2002, the Patriots missed the playoffs, but even though his single season rating was low, Brady still maintained a league-leading 28 touchdowns. Subsequently, he also had 14 interceptions. Even though Brady has been reported to have a shoulder injury in 2002, he managed to continue to start.

Things began to look up for Brady as the 2003 season rolled around. He led the Patriots through 12 consecutive wins and it was in this season that he had a quarterback rating of 122.9. Brady helped the Patriots win against the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII. He was voted MVP for a second time in his second Super Bowl win.

To present day, Brady continues to climb the ladder of success and has made quite a name for himself. In the 2007 season, he has managed to break several records, both personal, and league-wide. He’s broken Steve Grogan’s record for career touchdown passes with 185 total, and has won three Super Bowls (36, 38, and 39).

Major Events:
Although Tom Brady has had one of the longest starting streaks in a football players career, he has also suffered an injury to his right shoulder as of the ninth week in the 2007 season.

Achievements:

Tom Brady is an exceptional giant in football history. He’s won 3 Super Bowls, carries 2 MVP awards for two of the Super Bowls, has had the most consecutive post-season wins, and has a record for the most completions in a Super Bowl. Not to mention his 21 game win-streak.

The following is a list of some of Tom Brady’s personally set records:

Highest single-game quarterback rating: 158.3

Highest single-season quarterback rating: 92.6

Name: Jeff Gordon - Jeffery Michael Gordon
Sport: Race Car Driver - Nascar
Date of Birth: August 4th, 1971
Hometown: Vallejo, California
Marital Status: Ingrid Vandebosch

Jeff Gordon started his racing career at a young age, and soon grew to be one of the most popular NASCAR drivers in the sport. He’s 36 years old, and has already accumulated almost 90 Million Dollars in his career. Since his debut Winston Cup race in 1993, Gordon has continued to climb the ladder of success in racing.

Childhood:

When Jeff Gordon was 5 years old, he began racing quarter midgets, a form of racing in which the car is one quarter of the size (hence the name) of regular midget race cars. These cars were meant for dirt tracks, but could reach about 45 miles per hour. Jeff caught the racing bug, and his family moved out to California to help launch his career.

Professional Career:

Gordon joined the United States Auto Club (USAC) at 16, and was the youngest person to do so at that time. He raced his first full season in the Winston Cup for Hendrick Motorsports, and he won a Daytona 500 qualifying race. In this same year, he was awarded Rookie of the Year.

In 1994, Gordon won the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in the Coca Cola 600, which is NASCAR’s longest and hardest race. He began paving the way for younger potential racers to achieve their goals in NASCAR.

1998 marks one of the best seasons that Gordon has ever had. He tied Richard Petties record for 13 wins in a single season, and it was his third consecutive year to win over 10 races.

The following year, he attempted to form a race team called Gordon/Evernham Motorsports. It survived only one year. After that, the team was named JG Motorsports.

From 2000 to 2006, Gordon’s career remained steadily victorious. He gained 26 wins in the 6 years, and was in the top 5s over 60 times. In 2006, Jeff collected over 7 million dollars in winnings.

In 2007, Gordon had 6 victories, and hit his mark of 80 career victories on October 7th, 2007, and he has won over $89,397,060 in earnings to present. He is one of the best paid athletes in all of sports.

Major Events:

Jeff Gordon has seen success in many areas, but some of his main peaks in his career are centered on the Winston Cup, which he has been champion of 4 times. He was the Winston Cup Champion in 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2001.

Name: Alexander Rodriguez – Alexander Emmanuel Rodríguez
Nickname: A Rod
Sport: Baseball
Position: Shortstop

Date of Birth: July 27th, 1975
Hometown: New York, New York
Marital Status: Married to Cynthia Scurtis

A-Rod’s career started right after high school when he was drafted and signed by Roger Jongewaard to play for the Seattle Mariners in 1993. Since then, Alex’s career has done nothing but climb until he was one of the wealthiest players in professional baseball. From high school shortstop to 6 time American League All-star, Alex Rodriguez has managed to become a successful baseball player.

Childhood:

Rodriguez’s father introduced him to the sport of baseball when Alex was a young boy. Alex loved the game, and always played. When he was 8 years old, his parents divorced. After the divorce, Alex continued to play baseball and other activities while his mother worked two jobs to keep him in school.

He played baseball all throughout Westminster Christian high school, and was their star shortstop. Westminster won the high school national championship in his junior year. He started looking into colleges to play for and actually signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Miami. But he never did.

Professional Career:

A-Rod opted to become eligible for the amateur draft when he was 17, and in 1993, he was selected as the number 1 overall draft pick. He signed on with the Seattle Mariners. In 1994, he joined the Major League, and at 18, he started 17 games as shortstop.

On June 12th, 1995, Alex Rodriguez hit his first Major League home run, and the following year he had his first Full Major League season, and was also the American League batting champion hitting 35 home runs, and 123 RBIs. He also won his first AL (American League) Silver Slugger Award.

In July of 1997, Alex was voted to start his first All-Star Game as the American League shortstop, and in 141 games, he had hit 23 homers and 84 RBIs.

2000 was a big year for Alex. It was his final season in Seattle, he had 134 runs scored, 41 homers, and 132 RBIs that season. Also, he was named the Major League Player of the Year by Baseball America, and finished third in the AL MVP voting, although some believed he should have made MVP. After 7 years with the Mariners, A-Rod signed on with a 10-year contract with the Texas Rangers.

In 2001, Alex made the record to be the first shortstop to have the most homer runs, and was also the fourth player in Major League Baseball to ever have 50 homers, plus 200 hits in one season. May 5th, 2001 marked Alex’s 1000 career hit.

In 2003, Alex won his second consecutive Gold Glove award, as well as the youngest player to ever have hit 300 homeruns. This was the year that A-Rod won his first MVP trophy.

In 2004, Alex was traded to the Yankees and in his first seasons with them, joined Babe Ruth and Jimmie fox in getting 35 home runs, 100 runs, and 100 RBI’s in second consecutive seasons. He was the youngest player to ever get 350 home runs.

Rodriguez was again named AL MVP in 2005, and was named the fifth player to win an MVP with two teams. Alex Rodriguez was marked the youngest player to have ever hit 400 home runs.

From 2005 – 2007, a lot had progressed with Alex. He was awarded two Silver Slugger Awards, he hit is 14th Grand Slam, and he became the first player in major league history that had ever hit a total of 14 homers in 18 games. In November of 2007, Rodriguez agreed to a new contract with the Yankees worth $275 million.

Major Events:

Alex was given the framework of the largest contract that MLB has seen, which is close to 20 million dollars more than his previous contract of 252 million dollars. He also stands to make much more if he breaks the all time home run record as a Yankee.

Name: Tiger Woods - Eldrick Tiger Woods
Sport: Golf
Date of Birth: December 30th, 1975
Hometown: Cypress, California
Marital Status: Married to Swedish Model Elin Nordegren

Since his professional debut, Tiger Woods has undisputedly climbed the ladder of success to make himself known as the best golfer the world has ever seen. He has won 61 PGA tours, and has a total of 81 total tournament wins in his short, but extremely successful career. As of 2006, Tiger Woods was the richest athlete in the world.

Childhood:

Earl and Kultida Woods gave birth to a son on December 30th, 1975 and gave him the name Eldrick Tiger Woods. A friend of Earl continually called Eldrick “Tiger” and the name stuck, especially as Woods’ fame climbed.

When Tiger was a boy, he played golf with his father, and is well known for his appearance on the Mike Douglas Show at the age of 2, showing promise even as a toddler. And he has the accomplishments to back it up. He made his first hole-in-one at age 6, and at the age of 14, he got 2nd place in the PGA National Junior Championship.

College Career:

Tiger attended Stanford University; where he won several colligate events, the William Tucker Invitational and other awards. In 1995, he was named Stanford’s Male Freshman of the Year (an award that didn’t just limit him to golf, but all sports). He also participated in the Masters, his first PGA tournament, and he was the only amateur to make the grade, and tied for 41st. Tiger did not finish Stanford, but went on to play professional golf after two years at the University.

Professional Career:

Tiger’s professional career officially started in 1996. He signed two endorsement deals right off of the bat with Nike ($40M) and Titleist ($20M). On top of these two major deals, He was named Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year and PGA Rookie of the Year after tying 60th in his first round of professional golf at the Greater Milwaukee Open.

In the following April, Tiger set a record win of 12 strokes at the Masters, his first Major win in the professionals. Later that year, he gathered up three major wins at three other PGA events, and within 42 short weeks, he was already ranked as number one on the Official World Golf Rankings.

From 1999 and on until 2003 marked the very pinnacle of success for Woods, accumulating over 30 PGA tour wins, and 7 of them being major PGA events. He was named the PGA Tour Player of The Year from 1999 – 2003.

The following year didn’t seem to contain the same Tiger Woods as the previous years, and although Woods won 6 PGA tour events between the year 2003 and 2004, he did not win one single major PGA event. Although rumors of Tiger’s sudden sloppiness was due to a personal issue, but he later clarified that he would be back on top after he was finished tending to the new swing technique he was trying to develop.

In 2005, Tiger found his stride again, and he began pulling in the wins. However, this streak was interrupted by the death of his father, Earl, in May of 2006. Tiger took a break to be with his family. He returned with force and accuracy, hitting 92% of his shots in the Open Championship on the fairway. After his father’s death, he won 6 consecutive PGA events.

In 2007, the world saw the same old Tiger. He was named PGA player of the year again for the 9th time in his career, he was the PGA Tour money leader, and he also won his 7th Vardon Trophy. Tiger Woods has been called one of the most amazing athletes of his time, and he has the successful (and rather condensed) career to prove it.

Major Events:

In Orlando, Florida, Elin gave birth to the couple’s first child, a daughter, Sam Alexis Woods on June 18, 2007.

Peyton was drafted to the NFL in 1998 as the first overall draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts. Peyton Manning is currently the Quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts who won the Super Bowl in 2006. Peyton was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana where his father, Archie Manning, played Quarterback for the New Orleans Saints for 13 seasons. Many credit Peyton’s great skills to the legacy and training of his father Archie. Both Peyton and his brother Eli Manning are NFL quarterbacks.

Peyton is widely considered to be one of the best quarterbacks of his time due to his consistent statistical performance and ability to command the field. Peyton has achieved several NFL records including the most touchdown passes in a single season (2004), most consecutive seasons with over 4,000 yards passing (1999-2004), and most seasons with 4,000 or more yards passing in a career (7). Manning is second on the list for highest career passer rating, behind only the retired Steve Young a fellow Super Bowl Champion.

Basic Stats:
Number: #18
Position: QB
Height: 6-5
Weight: 230
Born: 3/24/1976 New Orleans , LA High School: Isidore Newman HS New Orleans, LA
College: Tennessee
Experience: 10th season

Child Hood: Peyton grew up with the pressure of being Archie Manning’s son. Archie was the pride and joy of souther football. Archie was the quarterback of the Saints for 13 seasons and while Peyton was in high school was the color commentator for the Saints. Archie coached and trained his sons from an early age which gave them a wonderful headstart. However, Peyton didn’t just have an NFL quarterback training him he was self determined and worked hard to develop his talents. Peyton had a true love for the game and his dad didn’t force football on him. Peyton would have to ask his father for help and he was more than willing to support him. From an early age there were a lot of people watching to see what would be become of Archie’s sons.

Peyton didn’t just love the game he had serious talent. While in High School at Isidore Newman High School Manning was the team’s starting quarterback for three consecutive seasons. He finished his high school career with 7,207 passing yards and 92 touchdowns. During that time, his team won 34 games and lost just five games. In 1993-94, Gatorade named him the State of Louisiana Player of the Year.

College Years: Peyton was one of the most highly recruited athletes in the nation before finally choosing Tennessee. His decision was somewhat controversial due to his father’s legacy at Ole’ Miss. By the end of Peyton’s career at Tennessee he had finished as the school’s all-time leading passer with 11,201 yards, 863 completions and 89 touchdowns. He holds 42 NCAA, SEC and Tennessee records, including 33 Tennessee single game, season and career records. Peyton was 39-6 as a starter for Tennessee. Peyton was 3-1 in his Bowl appearances and only threw 33 interceptions in 1,381 attempts.

Degree: Speech Communication GPA: 3.61 | Peyton completed his degree in 3 years and graduated with Honors.

Although Peyton graduated in 3 years and was chosen to be the #1 draft pick he decided to play at Tennessee for a fourth year. After his last season Peytons #16 was retired. Peyton entered the draft and was predicted to be the #1 draft pick and he was.

Professional Career: Peyton was selected as the #1 draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 1998. Since being drafted Peyton has started every game and only missing one snap due to injury.
