Peyton was drafted to the NFL in 1998 as the first overall draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts. Peyton Manning is currently the Quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts who won the Super Bowl in 2006. Peyton was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana where his father, Archie Manning, played Quarterback for the New Orleans Saints for 13 seasons. Many credit Peyton’s great skills to the legacy and training of his father Archie. Both Peyton and his brother Eli Manning are NFL quarterbacks.

Peyton is widely considered to be one of the best quarterbacks of his time due to his consistent statistical performance and ability to command the field. Peyton has achieved several NFL records including the most touchdown passes in a single season (2004), most consecutive seasons with over 4,000 yards passing (1999-2004), and most seasons with 4,000 or more yards passing in a career (7). Manning is second on the list for highest career passer rating, behind only the retired Steve Young a fellow Super Bowl Champion.

Child Hood: Peyton grew up with the pressure of being Archie Manning’s son. Archie was the pride and joy of souther football. Archie was the quarterback of the Saints for 13 seasons and while Peyton was in high school was the color commentator for the Saints. Archie coached and trained his sons from an early age which gave them a wonderful headstart. However, Peyton didn’t just have an NFL quarterback training him he was self determined and worked hard to develop his talents. Peyton had a true love for the game and his dad didn’t force football on him. Peyton would have to ask his father for help and he was more than willing to support him. From an early age there were a lot of people watching to see what would be become of Archie’s sons.

Peyton didn’t just love the game he had serious talent. While in High School at Isidore Newman High School Manning was the team’s starting quarterback for three consecutive seasons. He finished his high school career with 7,207 passing yards and 92 touchdowns. During that time, his team won 34 games and lost just five games. In 1993-94, Gatorade named him the State of Louisiana Player of the Year.

College Years: Peyton was one of the most highly recruited athletes in the nation before finally choosing Tennessee. His decision was somewhat controversial due to his father’s legacy at Ole’ Miss. By the end of Peyton’s career at Tennessee he had finished as the school’s all-time leading passer with 11,201 yards, 863 completions and 89 touchdowns. He holds 42 NCAA, SEC and Tennessee records, including 33 Tennessee single game, season and career records. Peyton was 39-6 as a starter for Tennessee. Peyton was 3-1 in his Bowl appearances and only threw 33 interceptions in 1,381 attempts.

Although Peyton graduated in 3 years and was chosen to be the #1 draft pick he decided to play at Tennessee for a fourth year. After his last season Peytons #16 was retired. Peyton entered the draft and was predicted to be the #1 draft pick and he was.
