Tom Brady

Name: Thomas Edward Brady, Jr.
Sport: Football
Date of Birth:
August 3rd, 1977
Hometown:
Mateo, California
Marital Status:
Not Married

Tom Brady got his start by frequenting 49ers games when he was a young boy, and so claims that Joe Montana is one of his main inspirations for playing the game of football. Since he was drafted by the Patriots, Brady has quickly become what some would consider the best quarterback of this generation. This would only seem true because of his amazing reputation and many awards as a football player.

Early Life:
Tom grew up in San Mateo, California. While he lived there, you would find him at either a 49ers game, or playing baseball at his high school. He graduated from his high school and was drafted by the Montreal Expos in 1995 to play Major League Baseball. But his career would take a different turn. And that turn led him to football.

College:
Brady played football as a back up at the University of Michigan for the first two years he attended college. Brady wanted in the game, but rarely got to see game time. In 1998 and 1999, after battling the thought of transferring out of the school, and forcing his way to first string quarterback, Tom finally got his wish.

He started in each game in the 98 and 99 seasons in which he set 2 new Michigan records for most pass attempts and completions in one season, and topped off his record first real season with a Citrus Bowl win.

Career:
In the 2000 NFL Draft, a toss up was made between Tom Brady and Tim Rattay to see who would play for the Patriots. Ultimately, the Patriots chose Brady over Rattay.

He worked his way up to being back-up for starter quarterback Drew Bledsoe, whom the Patriots lost due to injury later in the 2001 season. Brady was forced into starting, and seemed mediocre at first, to say the least. Brady pulled the Patriots through it, though and got them into the playoffs. Brady’s first time being named MVP was at Superbowl 36.

In 2002, the Patriots missed the playoffs, but even though his single season rating was low, Brady still maintained a league-leading 28 touchdowns. Subsequently, he also had 14 interceptions. Even though Brady has been reported to have a shoulder injury in 2002, he managed to continue to start.

Things began to look up for Brady as the 2003 season rolled around. He led the Patriots through 12 consecutive wins and it was in this season that he had a quarterback rating of 122.9. Brady helped the Patriots win against the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII. He was voted MVP for a second time in his second Super Bowl win.

To present day, Brady continues to climb the ladder of success and has made quite a name for himself. In the 2007 season, he has managed to break several records, both personal, and league-wide. He’s broken Steve Grogan’s record for career touchdown passes with 185 total, and has won three Super Bowls (36, 38, and 39).

Major Events:
Although Tom Brady has had one of the longest starting streaks in a football players career, he has also suffered an injury to his right shoulder as of the ninth week in the 2007 season.

Achievements:

Tom Brady is an exceptional giant in football history. He’s won 3 Super Bowls, carries 2 MVP awards for two of the Super Bowls, has had the most consecutive post-season wins, and has a record for the most completions in a Super Bowl. Not to mention his 21 game win-streak.

The following is a list of some of Tom Brady’s personally set records:

  • Highest single-game quarterback rating: 158.3
  • Highest single-season quarterback rating: 92.6
  • Highest career quarterback rating against a team
  • Highest passing touchdown total, season: 39
